Argentine culture is deeply tied to the ritual of sharing: gathering around an object is an essential way for us to connect. Whether it’s over mate, an asado, or a football match, these moments of sharing are part of our identity. The Plaza ashtray evokes those public spaces that are integral to daily life in Latin America. And like any good ashtray, it assists us in a moment of pause, to share a cigarette, or a joint with a friend. 

Maia Lutteral is an industrial designer from Argentina, now based in New York, who’s design practice is centered in crafting solutions that blend functionality with beauty. Deeply inspired by Latin American design, her work draws from childhood memories, everyday experiences, and a deep understanding of her cultural heritage.
